New for 2020 are two millinery themed workshops coming up at the lovely Saltaire Crafthouse, in Saltaire, just outside of Leeds.
Some of you know I hosted a couple of workshops in 2018 at my own workshop and workshops are so much fun to host. So I'm excited about this one! But truth be told they take a lot of work and hours to get word out about! And well I found out the hard way that my strong suit is only the making, not the marketing.. I'm literally terrible at selling myself!
So this year I am trying hosting workshops at different venues instead, starting with these two at the local Saltaire Crafthouse, run by April. Those of you local to Saltaire will know how many workshops are hosted there, it's a lovely venue with lots of weekly workshops in so many different craft based subjects.
The workshops I will be teaching are Colour Lilies & Headbands on the 22nd Feb 10am -1pm and Petal Shaping on March 14th, also 10am - 1pm.
Colour Lilies and Headbands is all about making silk calla lily flowers and making them into small headpieces. Colour lilies is one of the permanent collections, here at JLM and this workshop is all about making your own! You can make as many as you like in the workshop and take them all home with you afterwards!
Colour Lilies first came about as an alternative to larger hats for occasion wear, for those that want to wear something smaller, whilst still getting something made in custom colours. They also are made using just the smallest amount of fabric, so from the angle of sustainable waste, they don't use much fabric and less waste is created overall, as more of the fabric can be used. Each petal only takes up about 4cm of fabric each.
Then the next workshop is Petal Shaping, which is all about using traditional flower making tools to shape straw and fabric petals, which will then be used to make flowers and then a headpiece out of the flowers!
